These mobile communities might not present for follow up visits as they would have returned to their area of permanent residence. There could also be self-selection bias as women with minor cases of surgical site infection may not present for follow up visits whilst the ones with severe surgical site infection will present for follow up sessions and this will subsequently affect the sample composition. CONCLUSION: As the CS rates climb globally, the incidence of adverse outcomes related to operative deliveries continue to rise. Surgical site infection continues to rise, exacerbating the burden on healthcare systems. The incidence of sepsis in women who had CS delivery was 5.8%, comparable to some local and international findings. Post-operative sepsis was associated with obesity, HIV status and emergency CS delivery. Local directives and recommendations should focus on improving identification of women with risk factors for sepsis to improve maternal and neonatal outcomes.
