THE TALISMAN FOUNDATION The Talisman Foundation is a psycho-social recovery centre that has been providing services to mental health users for over forty years. Originally serving as a custodial care facility, the foundation grew and adapted to the recovery model and is focused on the development of independent living for its residents. The centre accommodates up to 200 residents in need of mental health care and recovery and provides a range of services from psychiatric treatment to vocational skills development. The Talisman Foundation is a prime example of quality mental health care and is highly regarded by leading psychiatric hospitals and other non-governmental organisations, including SADAG. MISSION AND VALUES The Talisman Foundation aims to be one of the premium recovery centres for people with mental health conditions in South Africa. It accomplishes this by: • Providing quality care for residents • Encouraging residents to participate in their recovery • Keeping residents connected to their community • Providing an environment that is conducive to rehabilitation • Promoting an environment of compassion and caring within the foundation Recovery, believes the Talisman Foundation is best aided by a strong partnership between the Foundation and user, by creating a sense of empowerment in the user, by providing structure for the user, and by the exceptional performance of both the staff and residents. TREATMENT The Foundation works with people who have been diagnosed with a mental health condition and aims to provide them with insight into their diagnosis so they can manage it effectively and reach their full potential.
